How to Apply DIY Lash Clusters at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide

To apply DIY lash clusters at home: cleanse your natural lashes and let them dry completely, brush a thin coat of lash bond along the base of a cluster, place the cluster under your natural lashes close to the lash line, then finish with sealant. Expect 3-5 days of wear. The sealant step is what carries the set, so do not skip it.

How Do DIY Lash Clusters Work?

A cluster is a small pre-made segment of several lashes joined at a single point. Instead of placing one extension on one natural lash the way a salon set works, you place a cluster under a group of natural lashes. That is why a full set takes minutes rather than hours, and why the result is a segmented line rather than an individually bonded one.

Clusters attach with a bonder rather than a professional adhesive, and the bond is designed to release. Wear is measured in days, not weeks. All nine trays in our DIY cluster lashes and kits collection are built on soft Korean PBT fiber and are 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free.

If you are still deciding between clusters and a full extension set, our comparison of lash clusters vs individual extensions covers the trade-offs directly.

What Do You Need Before You Start?

  • Clusters in the density you want. Density is the main decision - see the table below.
  • Lash bond and sealant. Two separate products. The bond holds the cluster; the sealant locks the set.
  • A pair of applicator tweezers. They grip the cluster base so you can place it without crushing the tips.
  • An oil-free remover. For taking the set off without pulling.
  • A mirror you can look down into. Placement accuracy depends on the angle you can see.

The fastest way to get all of it at once is the 320-piece DIY cluster lash kit, which packs 160 pcs 30D clusters, 160 pcs 40D clusters, the bonder and sealant, a remover and a pair of applicator tweezers. Nothing else is required before your first set. The 30D and 40D split is deliberate: 30D keeps the inner half soft and wearable while 40D builds density on the outer third, and because both share the same fiber and finish the transition reads as one continuous lash line.

Step by Step: How to Apply Lash Clusters

  1. Cleanse and dry completely. Wash your natural lashes and let them dry fully. Any oil or moisture left on the lash will break the bond before the day is out.
  2. Plan the map before you pick up a cluster. Decide which density goes where. Most people use lighter clusters on the inner corner and move up in density toward the outer third.
  3. Brush a thin coat of bond along the base of the cluster. Thin is the whole point. Excess bond pushes out onto the lash line, collects dust and looks cloudy.
  4. Place the cluster under your natural lashes, close to the lash line. Not on top of them. Place it under, snug to the line, angled to follow the curve of the eye so the tips fan.
  5. Finish with sealant. Sealant locks the bond and is what carries you to 3-5 days of wear. Work it along the base of each cluster once the full set is placed.

Work inner to outer. It is easier to judge balance once the inner and middle line is set, and you can add clusters to the outer third until the taper looks right.

How Many Clusters Per Eye Should You Use?

Fewer than most beginners expect. Density per cluster and cluster count work against each other: as the density of each cluster rises, the number you need falls.

Tray Density Clusters per eye Best for
10D and 20D DIY Cluster Lashes Lightest Most forgiving if placement is slightly uneven Beginners and natural-length lines
30D and 40D DIY Cluster Lashes Medium Standard full line Everyday volume
24DUO DIY Cluster Lashes Wispy volume 4-6, inner corner lighter Volume with visible texture
W02 DIY Cluster Lashes Full volume 4-5, outer third built last Maximum fullness, uniform finish
80D and 100D DIY Cluster Lashes Densest 4-5 rather than 6 A Russian-volume style result

The cluster counts above come from our own product guidance. The 80D and 100D note is the one to take seriously: those clusters carry substantially more fiber, so apply them closer to the lash line and keep the count slightly lower than you would with a 30D tray.

Choosing Between Wispy and Full Volume Clusters

The two 144-piece trays look identical but produce completely different sets. 24DUO is pure black with fibers that stay dense at the base and separate into visible points at the tips - a textured, airy volume finish with movement. W02 packs its fibers closely together across every segment for a dense, solid, even line. Choose 24DUO when you want texture and W02 when you want fullness. Each box holds roughly 15-20 full sets.

If you want a lighter, more lived-in result - particularly with blonde or light-brown natural lashes - the 40D Light-Color DIY Cluster Lashes come in six soft shades and read as your own lashes rather than as an added set. For texture rather than density, our wispy lash guide covers the mapping logic that applies to clusters too.

How Long Do They Last, and How Do You Remove Them?

Expect 3-5 days of wear per set. Keep the first 24 hours free of steam, swimming and oil-based cleansers, since all three attack the bond while it is still settling.

To remove, use an oil-free remover rather than pulling. Apply it to dissolve the adhesive so the clusters lift away without tugging your natural lashes. Pulling is the most common cause of damage with DIY clusters. Our lash glue remover is made for exactly this step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sleep in DIY lash clusters?

Yes. Cluster sets are designed for multi-day wear, including sleep. The two things that shorten wear are water and oil, so the first 24 hours matter more than your sleeping position.

Can I wear mascara with lash clusters?

It is better not to. Mascara clumps the cluster tips together and, more importantly, oil-based formulas and most mascara removers break down the bond. If you want more definition, move up one density step instead.

How many clusters are in a tray?

Tray sizes in our range are 120, 144 and 240 pieces depending on the density. The 144-piece trays are specified at roughly 15-20 full sets per box, and the colored 120-piece trays run 6 shades with 20 pieces per shade - 10 at 14mm and 10 at 16mm.

What is the difference between 30D and 40D clusters?

Density per cluster. 30D reads as everyday fullness and belongs on the body of the lash line; 40D carries more fiber and is used on the outer corner or to build a fuller, darker line. They are sold together because the pairing covers both jobs from one box.

Can I apply clusters over lashes that already have extensions?

Do not layer them. Remove the existing set first and let the natural lashes rest. Clusters are meant to attach to clean, bare natural lashes.
